Piz Buin Ultra Light Dry Touch Sun Fluid SPF30 & SPF15 Review

The sun has finally emerged this year, the temperature is rising (for now anyway!) and now is the time to break out the Sun Protection and slap it on. Hello Summer!

I have been trialling the new range from one of my favourite and most reliable Sun Care brands Piz Buin and it is a real treat.

Piz Buin Ultra Light Dry Touch Sun Fluid in SPF15 and SPF30

Piz Buin say

This sun fluid combines immediate and effective UVA/UVB protection with an ultra light formula that dries instantly. The hydrating fluid spreads easily over your skin for a weightless dry touch feel. The non sticky and non greasy formula absorbs instantly without leaving white marks for skin that feels silky and smooth. Enriched with an anti-oxidant* Vitamin E derivative, it helps to prevent sun induced premature skin ageing.

PIZ BUIN® Ultra Light Sun Fluid is sweat and water resistant.

Benefits

Has an instant dry touch
Feels ultra light on application
Formulated with special powders to give a unique dry touch feel
Oil free formula which leaves a non greasy finish, skin feels silky smooth

My thoughts

Ultra Light Dry Touch Sun Fluid is a revelation. The packaging has a twist nozzle for easy and non messy application (product does come in a spray formula if you prefer). The fluid is incredibly light and absorbs/dries instantly without leaving any trace of product or skin feeling sticky or tacky which is just marvellous for city dwellers as it can be worn daily without a second thought.

I am converted, however it has one downside. The incredible and distinctive Piz Buin scent that reminds me of my holidays..which leaves skin smelling so good means that I would much rather be at the beach than in London town.. if only I could be transported.

PIZ BUIN® Ultra Light Sun Fluid in SPF15 & SPF30 RRP £16.99 for 150ml

Boots Soltan Beautiful Bronze Self Tan Gel - Review

I have tried some tanning moisturisers, I have tried a tanning mousse so next up was a Self- Tan Gel...

This is from Boots Soltan Range - Beautiful Bronze which promises to give a natural even colour,  tinted colour for instantly luminous skin, dries instantly and fades evenly.

I had planned to apply this in a leisurely manner but things don't always go to plan. I exfoliated first using Skin Wisdom Day Spa Wash n Scrub and then applied a bit of moisturiser in those places where tan can stick...

Just as I was about to apply the gel my son yells from the bathroom he wants to get out so I had to apply the fake tan in a hurried manner!

This is where it impressed me..as it is a gel it is not messy to apply, it is tinted so you can see exactly where you have applied it. It rubs in well, smells a bit like vanilla and leaves a slight shimmer to the skin. It felt like it had dried quite quickly but I would be cautious and not wear anything that you wouldn't want to get stained.

You can see the tiny gold flecks of shimmer in this photo

Friday evening I left the house with the tan working its magic and next morning I woke with the shimmer gone and in its place a really beautiful golden glow! For me, this would be the equivalent of one week sitting in the sun in Ibiza.

I am so pleased with the results, I used to think that I didn't have time for fake tans but this proved that it literally takes just a couple of minutes.

Beautiful Bronze Self Tan Gel costs £6.99 for 150mls but is currently on offer priced £4.66!

Dove Summer Glow v Garnier Summer Body

I am not a fan of gaining colour from sitting in the sun as I seem to get headaches from it, and with a toddler I wouldn't really have time as I spend most of my time running after him anyway. However, I do like to have a nice sunkissed and all over glowy appearance in the summer. With this mind I purchased both these products to see what could be achieved and how they compare as they are competing in the same market.

I am pretty fair skinned but do tan quite easily due to my mixed heritage. Also my skin has a yellow tone to it, I chose to buy the fair to normal in Dove and the light sun-kissed from Garnier. Starting with my sugar scrub  to exfoliate and prepare the body (review coming soon), I then moisturised my elbows, knees and ankles to avoid those tell tale fake tan signs...

First of all I tried the Garnier Summer Body - This is a 12 hour daily moisturiser with a hint of tan that builds up to a natural sun-kissed glow - It goes on nicely and is quickly absorbed, by the next day I noticed a very subtle tan and by day 3 I had a lovely natural honey colour which was exactly what it said it would do - I did like it but the one thing that put me off was the scent, It was quite strong and seemed to last, not really to my taste.

A few days later and starting on a blank canvas, having prepared my skin I looked forward to trying Dove Summer Glow, again this is a Dove moisturiser with a hint of self tanning agent to gradually build a natural summer glow.  This says to use for 5 days to see best results but I used it to day 3 for the purposes of this review and comparison.  It went on very nicely as a moisturiser and dried quickly. I would say that this one gives a stronger colour, again very natural and sun-kissed but looking like I had spent a few days abroad.

In summary, both will give a natural sun kissed glow but my preference was for the Dove version as I preferred its scent which wasn't as overpowering as the Garnier.
