Sensodyne Pronamel - Protect Your Enamel

I have been trialling Sensodyne Pronamel Toothpaste and Mouthwash for the last few weeks. Protecting my teeth from acid erosion is something that I feel personally is important to me as I do like to eat a lot of fruit. And of course who doesn't want to give their teeth the best protection wherever possible?

Sensodyne Pronamel promises healthy, stronger and better protected enamel*

* Pronamel has a unique formulation. It helps minerals penetrate deep into the enamel surface, activelt strengthening and re-hardening weakened enamel, making it stronger, healthier and better protected from the effects of everyday acids.

Did you know...

Enamel is the hardest substance in the body. If not protected over time it can be weakened and erode.

Enamel is the white, mineral rich, outer layer of our teeth that protects the dentine underneath.

Acid erosion is caused by eating and drinking acidic foods such as fruit juice, fizzy drinks and even salad foods.

Yellow and dull enamel can be a sign of acid erosion.

It's important that we start protecting our enamel against acids to help stop acid erosion getting any worse.

Brushing twice a day with Pronamel helps to

Protect from the effects of acid erosion
Maintain healthy teeth and gums
Rebuilds enamel strength for strong white teeth
Clean and freshen your mouth
Restores natural whiteness
Provide cavity protection.

My thoughts

Pronamel has a nice and refreshing mint taste and leaves my teeth feeling polished and smooth, a good and effective toothpaste. My teeth look brighter. I really like using it and would purchase. Used in conjunction with Pronamel Mouthwash (alcohol free) which has a gentle mint taste,  mouth feels super clean and fresh.

Pronamel is available in a few different variants which I am looking forward to trying.

Sensodyne Repair & Protect Toothpaste Review

For years, rightly or wrongly, I have ignored the fact I have slightly sensitive teeth, just avoiding the foods that cause it. I have also ignored those Sensodyne adverts that have been on our screens for as long as I can remember...however when an email offering to try the newest toothpaste in the range arrived in my inbox I decided to take up the challenge and give it a go. I have to say I am pleased I did!

Sensodyne say

NEW SENSODYNE® Repair & Protect toothpaste, from the No.1 dentist recommended brand for sensitive teeth, now has a new formulation. With twice daily brushing it can create a harder*, protective layer over the microscopic holes in the exposed dentine that is 50% harder than the vulnerable areas of sensitive teeth.

Containing patented NovaMin®, a ground breaking technology originally developed for bone repair, new SENSODYNE® Repair & Protect helps to remineralise the tooth by delivering calcium and phosphate minerals to exposed areas, forming a harder* tooth like layer for even stronger repair***.

With twice daily brushing, new SENSODYNE® Repair & Protect toothpaste provides clinically proven, daily protection against the pain of tooth sensitivity while fluoride helps to strengthen enamel.

My thoughts

I have really enjoyed using the toothpaste (I am still using it). It is nice and smooth and has a really pleasant minty, fresh taste. It leaves teeth feeling clean and there is no residue left in the mouth. However the most important thing is, does it work? Well personally I think it has done a great job. My sensitivity is not present when I eat the things that have caused me problems in the past - mainly ice cold things or sweet things. To be honest I avoid things like penny sweets or Percy Pigs as they really hurt my teeth so I haven't taken eating them up again (they are bad for your teeth after all). I have noticed that hot drinks do not pose a problem to my teeth. Overall, I truly believe this toothpaste has worked and I like the fact that it is repairing my teeth while I use it.

The mouthwash I have given to the husband to try and he has been using it alongside the toothpaste which he also likes.. he has ditched the toothpaste we were using in favour of this! He likes the mouthwash and being a seasoned user of them, he knows his stuff.

SENSODYNE® Repair & Protect is available in the following variants: SENSODYNE® Repair & Protect, SENSODYNE® Repair & Protect Whitening and SENSODYNE® Repair & Protect Extra Fresh. The Sensodyne® range (RRP £4.99) is available from Tesco, ASDA, Sainsbury, Waitrose, Morrisons as well as Lloyd Pharmacies, Boots and Superdrug stores nationwide.

Blanx Intensive Stain Removal Whitening Toothpaste Review

As I do suffer from teeth staining I was keen to give Blanx Intensive Stain Removal, I liked the idea that it claimed to whiten teeth whilst removing stains.

Blanx say

BlanX Intensive Stain Removal with extract of Arctic Lichen.
Combines whitening with anti-staining action.
Its unique formula removes stains and pigmentation due to smoking, food, beverages and plaque deposits.

Contains non abrasive silica for deep and gentle cleaning without damaging enamel.

The Blanx range of products are the only daily cosmetic whitening toothpastes that use lichen, grown naturally in the Artic. Lichen contains active ingredients which attach harmful bacteria involved in the formation of plaque and tooth decay - not the beneficial bacteria found naturally in the mouth.

My thoughts

The toothpaste comes in a handy pump action tube and taste wise it is nice and minty but not so strong that it almost burns your mouth, I am sure you know the mints that I mean!

The toothpaste is smooth in texture and pure white, most of the whitening toothpastes I have tried have bits or feel gritty.

Now I must admit I was judging the stain removal on a two week timescale and had a particular stain I was aiming to see disappear. I was disappointed to find it was still there after two weeks but I carried on using this toothpaste (the tube is now almost finished) and actually I have been pleasantly surprised.

Whilst using this toothpaste I became pregnant and found it hard to brush my teeth, extreme early pregnancy sickness made me physically unable to contemplate brushing my teeth without gagging or being sick (grim I know!). However I was attending my sister's wedding and I HAD to have beautifully white teeth. I tried my hardest to use it when I could... more recently I have used it religiously twice a day.

The results

At some point the stains have gone, especially the one that was my control one! My teeth are lovely and white. So I would say that you will achieve stain free, whiter teeth but it will take continued use and a little patience.

I really like this toothpaste and can see the results, especially in photos.

Blanx Intensive Stain Removal Whitening Toothpaste 75ml is currently on special offer in Boots for £4.20

Arm & Hammer Advance White Intense Fresh Toothpaste - Review

Arm & Hammer say

New Arm & Hammer Advance White Intense Fresh toothpaste offers both brilliant whitening and an intense, powerful boost of cool breath freshness for longer lasting freshness than regular toothpaste.

The secret to this superior freshening is the unique not so secret ingredient Baking Soda which breaks down into tiny particles that gently penetrate further and work harder, breaking bonds between plaque and enamel, and neutralising bad odour. Arm & Hammer Advance White Intense Fresh toothpaste contains 20% of Baking Soda giving you a blast of this proven natural cleaner for a deeper clean and to maintain a good pH balance inside the mouth, neutralising acids and leaving you feeling fresher for longer.

  • Baking Soda gently deep cleans away both surface and deep stains.
  • Baking Soda neutralises odour-causing compounds to freshen breath for longer.
  • Intense powerful boost of cool mint for an exhilarating fresh sensation that lasts.
  • With micro-polishers clinically proven to white teeth
My thoughts

I have used Arm & Hammer toothpastes before and I must admit the salty taste of the Baking Soda took a little while to get used to, however I did end up liking it.

I have been using Advance White Intense Fresh for over a week now and I am pleasantly surprised by the results. The gel toothpaste has a very intense and refreshing minty flavour which cools the mouth down instantly. I love it. The actual gel paste has a slight gritty texture to it which again I like as I feel like it is doing something :-)

I do have some stains on my teeth that I was planning on going to the dentist to remove with a clean and polish but in a week I have seen some disappear and others lessen which is fantastic and my teeth are looking really rather nicer than pre Arm & Hammer toothpaste. I haven't noticed much of a difference to their whiteness as yet but I love the fact that this toothpaste is really gentle and that it leaves the surface of my teeth really nice and smooth and clean feeling.

ETA - 2 weeks of use and my teeth are looking even better, stains have pretty much disappeared!

Arm & Hammer Advance White Intense Fresh Toothpaste is available from Sainsbury's, Tesco and Asda RRP £2.99 for 75ml

BlanX White Shock Toothpaste Review

Wouldn't you love a toothpaste that actively whitens your teeth every time you smile?

Well that is the claims of the latest toothpaste from BlanX - White Shock with LED Accelerator

BlanX say

Whitens teeth from first application. Non abrasive toothpaste. Non peroxide

The only toothpaste in the world containing Actilux, an innovative formula protected by 2 international patents.

LED light has been designed to boost the effect of the toothpaste

Actilux is deposited on the surface of the teeth and remains active throughout the day, whitening teeth naturally. Every time you smile Actilux reacts to light, naturally whitening and removing bacteria that cause plaque and tooth decay.

My thoughts

Needless to say whilst I have been trialling BlanX White Shock I have been smiling at every opportunity :-)

The LED attaches to the toothpaste and activates it as it comes out of the tube, but you can also apply the light over teeth to give it an added boost.

The paste is a gel formula and tastes lovely - minty and fresh.

I have now finished the tube of paste and have noticed that my teeth appear to be brighter. I would imagine that this would work exceptionally well after having had your teeth cleaned or whitened professionally, maintaining the results. Personally I don't whiten my teeth but I do like the idea of the gentleness of this paste. I found the results to be subtle but effective.

BlanX White Shock (50ml) with LED £6.99
BlanX White Shock (75ml) £4.99

Oral B Pro Expert Toothpaste - The Verdict

A little while ago I told you about Oral B Pro-Expert Toothpaste and promised a review once I had trialled it for at least a couple of weeks. I have been using Pro Expert for a few months now and am ready to give you my verdict...

The claims - With regular brushing, Oral-B Pro-Expert helps:

• Prevent Cavities
• Prevent Plaque
• Prevent Gum Problems
• Build increasing protection against painful sensitivity
• Prevent Tartar
• Whiten teeth by removing surface stains
• Prevent Enamel Erosion
• Freshen Breath

I was given Oral B Pro-Expert Touthpaste in Clean Mint to try out.

The Taste - When I smelt this in the tube I was a little concerned. I love brushing my teeth and I am a little addicted to that minty taste that most toothpaste's have..but Clean Mint smells like the coloured water you swirl around after a dental check up or filling. However, once I got over the disappointment and actually brushed my teeth with the paste I found that actually I really liked it. It tastes quite sweet, a bit like cinnamon.

'Active Clean Crystals' - The crystals provide a crunchy sensation when first in the mouth, but they quickly disperse. Again this doesn't bother me at all as they are quite fine.. in fact I was expecting coarser crystals so was pleasantly surprised.

Consistency - Pro Expert is not a cream toothpaste but more like a gel.

Verdict - After use my teeth feel ultra clean, the kind and smoothness you feel when you pass your  tongue over your teeth after a really good brush. (I hope you know what I mean!) I do think my teeth are ever so slightly whiter looking. My teeth still get a bit sensitive when I have ice cold food/drink. All in all, I like using this toothpaste and will continue to do so.

Have you tried Pro Expert yet?

Oral-B Pro- Expert - Brand New Toothpaste

From today there will be yet another toothpaste on the Supermarket shelf to choose from - Oral-B Pro Expert.

Last night I was invited to its launch and had the pleasure of meeting dentist Dr James Russell from The London Smile Clinic and TV's embarrassing bodies. He dazzled us with the science behind and the results of trials of this new toothpaste.

Pro-Expert took 15 years to develop and is described as 'the next generation of toothpaste. It is the first and only toothpaste to combine two ingredients : Stannous Fluoride and the Polyphosphate System.

Now these two ingredients might not mean much to you, they mean very little to me but what is important to me is that my toothpaste does everything I need from it... and this appears to do it all. Offering comprehensive protection with the strapline 'Protects the areas dentists check most' it will deal with Cavities, Gum, Plaque, Sensitivity, Enamel, Tartar, Whitening and Breath.

The results do look impressive

Its whitening credentials - Clinical research showed up to 96% less stains in two weeks!

I have in my possession various other results from the studies, fresher breath after 3 weeks compared to a standard fluoride toothpaste, 44% less sensitivity after 8 weeks compared to a normal toothpaste and so it goes on with all the other concerns that we have with our teeth. If you do want any more information please let me know.

I love brushing my teeth and will do anything to prevent dental interference and the dreaded dentist's drill so am willing to give this a try. The idea that this will negate the need for specific toothpastes for a certain problem appeals to me, ie not needing a separate whitening paste or one to deal with my sensitivity.

Armed with my electric toothbrush I will be trying this out for at least two weeks and will give my verdict on this new paste that by the way smells professional like the dentist's and apparently is a bit crunchy at the beginning!

If you would like to buy Oral-B Pro Expert you can find it in Boots, supermarkets and other leading retailers costing RRP £3.49 for 75 mls.
