NOTD - Orly Hot Shot

Get Ready for a Summer of Love

As soon as I saw what my sister had purchased this morning I had to apply it and make it my my nails of the day... Orly Hot Shot is a bright (almost neon) orange shade ideal for a Summer's day. The sun has rarely shone these past few months and this was the perfect pick me up for the first glimpse of Sun we have seen in a long time and to get me in the spirit and warmth of Summer.

I think it is a great shade to wear at this Summer's music festivals and a brilliant beach bright.

Keen eyed readers will notice that my ring finger has a slightly different shade on it, but I will save the details for another post!

I applied two coats and a top coat.

NOTD - Orly Terracotta

Eagle eyed BeautySwot readers will know that this is not my hand, I have enlisted the help of my sister for today's Nails of The Day featuring Orly Terracotta. Terracotta is not an earthy brown/orange shade as its name suggests but a beautifully bright and creamy coral shade just perfect for when the Sun finally appears or to just lift your spirits on a rainy day.

It applies like a dream, two coats provide perfect coverage.

Love it. Think I am going to have a hard time wrestling it back from her ;-)

NOTD - Orly Cupcake

Think pink fondant icing on a finger bun and you have the perfectly pretty shade of Orly Cupcake.

Look how well it matches the pink in a scarf I have which I just couldn't resist including in the shot above. This soft and sugary pink pastel is ideal for me to wear day to day in Spring, a shade that enhances my hands but doesn't scream look at me...

As this is quite sheer, I applied 3 thin coats of this creamy textured lacquer to get decent coverage which didn't show the white tops of my nails, but the bonus was that the thinner coats meant that it dried faster than the 2 thicker coats I had tried on first application.

Nails Of The Day - Mavala Elegance

A little while ago I won my choice of 5 nail polishes from Mavala on twitter. One of those shades was Mavala Gold which I love. Mavala Elegance was another of my choices. On the site and in the bottle it looks like a beigey/ latte brown shimmery shade and I was really looking forward to applying it. To be honest I am disappointed with this choice as it not a great match for my skin tone, it doesn't lift it all. That said I like Mavala minis a lot, very easy to apply and the ones I have tried so far have not streaked.

This polish is another in the pearl range. When applied I think Elegance looks very similar to and would make a good dupe for Orly's Gilded Coral. In fact I was so taken by the similarity I went and applied Gilded Coral to compare. Here is the original picture I took.

On closer inspection the difference is subtle, Gilded Coral is a thicker, creamier texture which only needs one coat to achieve the same look as Elegance which needs two.. It has more gold running through it so when the sun/light hits it is more gold in appearance, whereas Elegance has more of a pinky/peach tone to it.  Looking at these pictures I am not sure if I was able to capture the similarity between the two but it is definitely there!

I wish I had been more adventurous when choosing the five shades. Now Summer is here a fab, bright orange or coral would have been ideal.. I have three more shades to try from those that I won so look out for future Nails Of The Day.

NOTD - Orly Gilded Coral

Back in December I gave a preview of the new Precious Collection from Orly which was being launched in January 2011.

I mentioned then that the Gilded Coral really appealed and today I am featuring it as my nails of the day. Just as I thought, I love it. It is a stunning coral colour, peach with a slightly pink tone and a beautiful gold shimmer to lift it to something special. I think this is so pretty on...

I even found a bracelet to complement it !
