Avon Mega Effects Mascara in Blackest Black Review

Today I am reviewing probably the most curious looking mascara I have ever seen. Introducing Avon Mega Effects Mascara.  Small, compact, travel friendly packaging that is quite different from the usual barrel wand. The wand is also different as it resembles a paint brush and has a flexible handle

Take a look

Avon say

The Wonderbrush that's going to change mascara history

Provides panoramic volume and corner to corner coverage for dramatic definition. Flake-proof and sweat-proof.

9ml

How To Use

Step 1 - Grip it

Grip at the sides and remove cap.

Step 2 - Rock it

Rock brush from side to side to pull out and bend to desired angle.

Step 3 - Brush it

Comb through from root to tip.

Step 4 - Lock it

Insert applicator until it locks in place.

My thoughts

I like the packaging and the design, it is, bright, innovative and a major shake up of something a bit more traditional. However, I used the mascara 3 or 4 times and I just couldn't get to grips with the best way to use it. I followed the instructions but I wasn't wowed with the end result.

It may be that my eye area is too small for the wand and it was all a bit too straight for me, even though I did try to use the flexible wand to change angles to see how best to get coverage on every lash. I found that it was really hard to capture the smaller inner lashes. I also found that one coat was all I could do without it getting too clumpy and it was really messy to apply in the first instance as I applied.

The plus points - a decent rich black colour and it does stay in place all day without smudging.

Overall, this mascara wasn't for me.

If you are looking at the screen, on your left the lashes have two coats and on the right my lashes are the result of just one coat.

I think that this really is a one coat mascara but for me although it lengthened nicely, there wasn't quite enough impact. Ps I did try and clean up all the mascara mess before taking the photo!

Avon Mega Effects Mascara in Blackest Black costs £10

EOTD - Eyes of The Day - a bit of colour!

Those who know me well know that I tend to favour neutrals for make up these days. It wasn't always this way though! I used to love shades of purples, greens, greys as those tended to bring out my green eyes.

As bright 'POP' colours are back this Spring/Summer I thought I would have a little play with a purple and have a little fun....

My Valentine's Day Makeup

This year we decided to stay in and enjoy a meal at home, we even included our toddler in our celebration. We had a veritable feast of chicken in a red wine, brandy and mushroom sauce, minted greens and rosemary roast potatoes. For dessert we had a Gu chocolate mousse. This was washed down with Prosecco.

But enough of the food chat .....

My Valentine's Day makeup -

My eyes were lined using Avon's Supershock Gel Eye Liner which I just love, the liner just glides on and is so black for real 'wow' eyes. I kept my lips understated with No7's Nude Rebel lipstick.

And just look at the stunning red roses my husband gave me!

I had to close my eyes to receive them..

Oh yes I almost forgot, on my eyelids I wore L'Oreal Colour Appeal Chrome Intensity in Cacao Mania.

A close up -  diamonds, a butterfly and glitter!

All tied lovingly with a bow

Happy Valentine's Day!

Avon Glimmersticks Diamonds Eye Liner

I have quite sensitive eyes so have shied away for many years from using eye-liners. Recently however, I have found that my sensitivity has lessened and now I love wearing eye liners to frame and enhance. I have green eyes and my favourite shades are not only the obvious ones like black and brown but other shades like blues, greens, purples, gold and silver.

This is one of my current favourites - Avon Glimmersticks Diamonds in Twilight Sparkle

This is a pencil eye liner that comes in a roller-ball format that you twist when needed. It is soft and creamy and doesn't drag. I am using twilight sparkle which is a blue liner with a hint of glitter - very pretty indeed and perfect for party season. It is long lasting and doesn't really budge - I drew a line on my hand to test it and gently rubbed and it was still there without smudging, in fact it took quite a few rubs to remove, which is great!

Here I am wearing it

Glimmersticks Diamonds Eye Liner comes in 6 shades and is available to purchase from the Avon Catalogue and on-line at www.avonshop.co.uk

They are currently on offer for just £3! (usual price £6)

My Chocolate Indulgence

I love chocolate. It is a rare woman that doesn't .... and although it is very tasty, it is not always good for the waistline. However, as it is Chocolate week (11-17th October - an excellent chance to take part in lots of chocolate related events),  I thought I would take a moment to indulge and share with you some gorgeous and useful chocolate inspired beauty products!
