Rome Wedding - Coast Lana Jersey Dress & Lyla Maxi Dresses

As a wedding guest I automatically think of taking a look at the dresses in Coast (well actually I love looking in store and online pretty much all the time, on this occasion however I had a gift voucher so what better excuse to spend it on. This wedding invitation was to the romantic City of Rome in Italy. So whatever I chose had to not only be suitable for the event but also deal with the July heat of 34/35 degrees and keep me cool.

The Lana Jersey Dress

I tried many dresses on and whilst they were extremely pretty on the hanger I had to face facts they were not right for me, eventually I found this Lana Jersey Dress and knew it was the one. This gorgeous dress, which was a stunning and vibrant shade of blue, fitted and flattered my curvy hourglass figure perfectly. Truly comfortable to wear, I teamed this dress with nude heels

Lyla Maxi Dress

My sister also visited Coast for her dress, her figure is slender and athletic (lucky lady!) and she opted for this beautiful Coral dress which complemented the outdoor wedding with its greenery and splendour to really stand out in the photographs that were taken.

A family shot :-) my mum is wearing Coast's Lori Lee Maxi Dress

On a final note...there were well over 200 guests and not one of us was wearing the same outfit!

Twinings Jasmine Green Tea and Peach & Cherry Blossom Green Tea

Pop 'Green Tea' into the google search box and you will see all of the health benefits associated with it.

The benefits of drinking green tea

Speeds up metabolism and burns fat aiding weight loss
Lowers cholesterol levels
Can help lower blood pressure
Can help prevent bad breath

and a whole lot more are attributed to it.

Well I tried plain old green tea and I was unmoved and unimpressed. It didn't taste particularly nice so still wanting to drink it due to the health benefits, I persevered in drinking it but not altogether enjoying it ..until I noticed that there were other options available. I first purchased a selection pack from Twinings and my favourite from it was the Orange and Lotus Blossom, just gorgeous.

I have always liked drinking Jasmine Tea when dining in Chinese restaurants so I knew I would like Jasmine Green Tea - Twinings one is delicately flavoured with Jasmine, it has a light perfume scent and is perfect for drinking after dinner. More recently I have been really liking Peach & Cherry Blossom Green Tea. In 3 minutes you have a beautiful fragrance and it tastes just as good as it smells (unlike fruit teas which smell amazing but usually disappoint). A nice peach with a hint of cherry. Really nice and ideal to drink at anytime of the day.

Twinings Jasmine Green Tea box of 20 bags costs £1.39
Twinings Peach & Cherry Blossom Green Tea 20 bags costs £1.39

Face Of The Day Featuring Bourjois Blush in LILAS D'OR

I purchased LILAS D'OR blush from Bourjois quite a while ago but have only just got around to using it. My goodness I LOVE it! So pretty, so natural looking and the formula is super smooth meaning it does not leave a powdery finish.

A little bit of trivia from the Bourjois website -

Bourjois Little Round Pot Blush is our iconic and timeless product since 1863.
Bourjois Little Round Pot blush was the first ever dry powder making make-up accessible to all women everyday in the 19th century

I don't use the scratchy teeny tiny brush that comes with it (it also has a mirror in the tiny pot) but it is perfect for scratching the surface to release the product as I find that after a few uses my brush doesn't pick up the blusher.

Here I am wearing it

I find the shade LILAS D'OR ultra flattering, what do you think? What shades from the range are your favourite?

Bourjois Little Round Pots Blusher are available in 12 shades and cost £7.99 each.

Rimmel London Apocalips Lip Lacquer Swatches

Out shopping today I came across the stand for Rimmel London's Apocalips Lip Lacquers. Still on the hunt for a replacement perfect nude lipstick for my beloved No7 Nude Rebel I thought I would swatch the Nude Eclipse shade and ended up swatching a couple more!

Apocalips Lip Lacquers are described as being  'The intense rich colour of a lipstick, enhanced by a satin smooth shine'.

Swatches of the shades that caught my eye.

Shades pictured from left to right

Nude Eclipse
Apocoliptic
Celestial

I absolutely loved the Nude Eclipse and Celestial shades. The doe foot applicator is great and the lip lacquers are creamy and pigmented. Apocoliptic is nice but I wouldn't wear it as much as the other two. I am planning to make a purchase very soon.

Rimmel London Apocalips are available in 8 shades and cost £5.99

Scholl Express Pedi Review - Summer Feet

With all this glorious weather it is time the feet were out on display so I have been giving my feet some much due TLC and treated them to the Scholl Express Pedi followed by some intense moisturisation with Scholl Dry Skin Instant Recovery Cream.

I have had the Express Pedi for a while now and finally felt able to unwrap it and put it to good use... the wrapping is a nightmare to open!!

However, thankfully, the product is incredibly easy to use. Billed as 'Professional Hard Skin Removal At Home' the Express Pedi makes light work and takes very little effort to operate. Once you pop in the included 2 x AA batteries you switch it on and are good to go.

To use, you just turn the pedi on and apply the rotating roller with light to medium pressure to the hard skin.

Results

In seconds it had pretty much removed all the hard skin on my feet ( I will say now I don't have really bad hard skin but it was beginning to bother me) and delightfully collected the shavings (okay maybe that is a bit gross) in the base of the revolving sandpaper section.

Pain-free, fast, easy and effective. I think this is a brilliant product and the only thing letting it down is the lack of a little collection point for the shavings, which you can then empty, as really they are free to fly anywhere.

Replacement heads will need to be purchased.

Warning

Do not use on very cracked or bloody skin. Keep out of reach of children. If the skin is sore or inflamed, discontinue use of the product. Store in a safe place. Make sure the device does not get wet. Don’t use for longer than 20 minutes at a time. This product is NOT SUITABLE for diabetics and those with poor blood circulation.

Scholl Express Pedi £39.99

I followed by applying Scholl Dry Skin Instant Recovery Cream £5.99.  This is a fairly rich and hydrating cream, using both together the results were super soft, silky feet. Softer than I have had in years.

Final thoughts

I use the Express Pedi every 3 or so days and am moisturising my feet daily to maintain the fabulous feet results.

Bronze & Glow - Benefit Hoola & Sunbeam

Ah Summer you have well and truly arrived in Style!

To help me with that all important 'Summer glow 'I have been rotating between using 3 of my favourite bronzers and applying a highlighter as I do love the radiance that it provides across my cheek bones and how it lights up my face when the sun hits it.

A recent discovery of my mine is Benefit's Hoola Bronzer - This is a fabulous matte powder bronzer that is exceptionally smooth and silky to apply. It is easy to blend, looks natural and is buildable depending on how brown/sunkissed you want to appear and gives a lovely warmth to the skin that is ideal in Summer.

Swatch of Hoola

I have reviewed Sunbeam before but needless to say I am using this as it has a wonderful golden/bronze tinge to it that just complements bronzers so well for that authentic golden glow.

Benefit Hoola Bronzer £23.50

Benefit Sunbeam Highlighter £19.50

Perfume Sample Saturday - Prada Candy L'Eau EDT - Review

The fresh and joyful allure of Prada Candy L'Eau lies in its mix of zest, radiance and sweetly addictive notes. Vibrant Citrus and delicate Sweet Pea magnify the trinity of Musks, Benzoin and Caramel.

Top notes - Citrus Lemon and Mandarin
Heart note - Delicate Sweet Pea
Base notes - White Musk Cocktail, Benzoin and Caramel

My thoughts

Lighter than the original Prada Candy, L'Eau for me is far more wearable. A fresher initial burst of delicate citrus blends well and means the sweetness of the base notes are far less cloying. I love the delicious caramel notes and the scent has fairly good longevity. I struggle to detect the floral note in this fragrance but this is no bad thing.

Overall a very nice, feminine and altogether a far more grown up scent from the original.

Prada Candy L'Eau EDT 30ml costs £37.50

What's Inside The July 2013 Glossybox

July's Glossybox is themed Seaside Splash, the perfect box to help you prep for your Summer getaway. Quite often I say that I am not sure why they bother with a theme as I don't find the contents to particularly match the theme (except for probably the Harrods Edition and the excellent Natural Box). This month however I am happy to say the theme and the contents of my box fit perfectly.

The contents

Ciate London Paint Pot £9 (full size) shade Mistress

Paint pots are fab and this full size pot is a great addition to the box. If you haven't tried Ciate before you are in for a treat. There are 3 different shades floating around in the boxes and personally it would have been lovely to have received a different one as I already have Mistress which is a fab red. Click the link in the title of this section to see the gorgeous tomatoey red on my nails.

Nip+Fab Shine Fix £9.95 15ml (Full Size)

This is described as a light gel that removes and absorbs excess oil flow to instantly control shine.

I haven't had a chance to use this fully (ie test it out for a day or so) but it does instantly mattify the skin and can be used as often as required. It does have quite a medicinal scent and I found it to be a little sticky.

Alterna Haircare Bamboo Style Boho Waves Tousled Texture Mist (25ml) Full Size 125ml £23

Claims to create effortlessly tousled 'just back from the beach' waves. Adds texture, volume and healthy shine to all hair types in a weightless mist formula.

I absolutely love this, I have had my box for a few days now and in the heat have opted for carefree waves. This smells absolutely gorgeous and fresh with its cucumber scent. It defines the waves and adds shine although some pieces of my hair were a little crunchy but not overly so.

Anantomicals Spray Misty For Me Facial Spritz 100ml £6 (Full Size)

Suitable for all skin types this timely facial spritz has been a welcome addition to my skin these last few scorching hot days. It has a pleasant cooling effect and my skin feels nice and soft too. It contains calming Lavender and refreshing Peppermint extracts. Smells good.

Coola Organic Suncare Collection - Coola Mineral Face SPF20 Rose Essence Tint (7ml) Full Size 50ml £29.99

This is a teeny sample sized tube which I haven't tried yet. I will give it a go tomorrow. Hand swatched I have found it to be light in texture, slightly warming in colour and providing radiance to the skin but I will see how it transfers to my face and report back.

It looks promising though with it being paraben free, packed with antioxidants and hypoallergenic. It apparently provides complete UVA/UVB protection and fights free radicals whilst soothing, toning and minimizing pores. Although it claims that Organic Acai Oil delivers powerful anti-ageing benefits and organic Evening Primrose and Linseed Oils reduce inflammation and balance moisture, you are very unlikely to see these benefits from one or two applications.

ETA - I have been using this three days now (7ml seems to go quite far!) and I really like it. it gives warmth to the face, a dewy finish and it covers and smooths pores. Good stuff.

Final thoughts

Gorgeous bright turquoise box with a seaside coral/starfish print and useful contents that match the theme brilliantly make this a stonker of a box this month. With 3 full size products with a total value of just under £26 and 3 additional products one a perfect travel size this box is excellent value and one that I was rather excited to open and use the products!

Glossybox costs £10 a month plus p+p

Arm & Hammer Advance White Intense Fresh Toothpaste - Review

Arm & Hammer say

New Arm & Hammer Advance White Intense Fresh toothpaste offers both brilliant whitening and an intense, powerful boost of cool breath freshness for longer lasting freshness than regular toothpaste.

The secret to this superior freshening is the unique not so secret ingredient Baking Soda which breaks down into tiny particles that gently penetrate further and work harder, breaking bonds between plaque and enamel, and neutralising bad odour. Arm & Hammer Advance White Intense Fresh toothpaste contains 20% of Baking Soda giving you a blast of this proven natural cleaner for a deeper clean and to maintain a good pH balance inside the mouth, neutralising acids and leaving you feeling fresher for longer.

  • Baking Soda gently deep cleans away both surface and deep stains.
  • Baking Soda neutralises odour-causing compounds to freshen breath for longer.
  • Intense powerful boost of cool mint for an exhilarating fresh sensation that lasts.
  • With micro-polishers clinically proven to white teeth
My thoughts

I have used Arm & Hammer toothpastes before and I must admit the salty taste of the Baking Soda took a little while to get used to, however I did end up liking it.

I have been using Advance White Intense Fresh for over a week now and I am pleasantly surprised by the results. The gel toothpaste has a very intense and refreshing minty flavour which cools the mouth down instantly. I love it. The actual gel paste has a slight gritty texture to it which again I like as I feel like it is doing something :-)

I do have some stains on my teeth that I was planning on going to the dentist to remove with a clean and polish but in a week I have seen some disappear and others lessen which is fantastic and my teeth are looking really rather nicer than pre Arm & Hammer toothpaste. I haven't noticed much of a difference to their whiteness as yet but I love the fact that this toothpaste is really gentle and that it leaves the surface of my teeth really nice and smooth and clean feeling.

ETA - 2 weeks of use and my teeth are looking even better, stains have pretty much disappeared!

Arm & Hammer Advance White Intense Fresh Toothpaste is available from Sainsbury's, Tesco and Asda RRP £2.99 for 75ml

Sampar Paris Skincare Products Review - Essentials & Cosmakeup

A fair few weeks ago I was sent three products from Sampar Paris to review, I hadn't heard of this brand before it dropped through my letterbox so I was intrigued to find out more and test them out.

About Sampar Paris

Sampar: Smart Skin in the City

SAMPAR claim to be the pioneer of urban skincare. The SAMPAR mission is to reset the skin's intelligent response system and to support its natural healing actions. All Sampar products are enriched with the exclusive Urban Advance Complex. The innovative formulations act at the heart of cells to "wake up" and reactivate the skin's vital functions, helping to recover a state of equilibrium.  Not only does the Sampar philosophy believe in high quality formulations, importance is also placed on the sleek innovative packaging. Airless packs are used to guarantee efficiency of formulas without risk of contamination. It also means that you will be able to use the 100% of the product.

From the Essentials collection

So Much to Dew Midnight Mask 50ml, £34

Sampar say

Overnight hydrating and replenishing mask. Day after day, restores ideal moisture levels and improves skin hydration, starting from the first application. Provides comfortable, supple and toned skin 24/7. Contains a Smart Hydrating Complex and Hyaluronic Acid Capsules. Suitable for all skint types.

My thoughts

This moisturising mask has a gorgeous fresh scent, a beautifully light texture and is very comfortable to wear overnight. It feels really hydrating and refreshing, skin looks plumped in the morning. I like this a lot as an overnight treatment.

To use - apply after cleansing, which you do by twisting the lid so that the product comes through the brush, and rinse off in the morning.

Equalizing Foam Peel 50ml, £48

Sampar say

A granule free exfoliator. A uniquely formulated peel with no grains and no colourants suitable for all skin types. It gently and efficiently exfoliates, freeing the skin of deeply rooted pollutants and toxins for replenished skin and a complexion in just 2 minutes. Contains Probiotic Enzymes and a blend of essential oils including Lavender, Sage, Thyme, Rosemary and Geranium.

My thoughts

Texture wise this is really runny, scent wise it is herby and slightly medicinal. This is a real hero product. Readers of will BeautySwot know that I am a huge fan of products that are time saving and work in a short time frame. I absolutely love that in 2 minutes the look of my skin improves. Brighter, softer, smoother skin in just 2 minutes. Brilliant.

To use - Apply twice a week to lightly moistened face, avoiding the eye contour. Leave on for 2 minutes. Add water and rub into skin with fingertips. Rinse thoroughly.

Cosmakeup - blurring the lines between skincare and make-up

Glamour Shot 30ml, £34

Sampar say

Minimises wrinkles & imperfections in 1 min. A universal transparent foundation suitable for every skin type and colour that has both instant and long term effects. HQA microlens technology erases imperfections and illuminates the skin, instantly evening out the complexion, masking redness and and minimising fine lines and wrinkles. It smoothes and mattifies whilst reducing enlarged pores. Contains Oat Extract and Encapsulated Hyaluronic Acid.

My thoughts

Out of the three products this was the one that I was most excited about trying. Seduced by the product name and its claims of fast action and perfect skin with a transparent foundation. I wasn't overly taken by the smell, texture wise the product was creamy and felt nice to apply. There is no denying the fact that this calms redness down and blurs fine lines and mattifies the skin making it appear smoother, so far so good. However, I am afraid I just couldn't get past the fact that I couldn't apply a foundation over the top. I tried, it clumped. Personally I just felt too naked without the coverage and warmth of a foundation on my skin. I think the place that needs it is the most is my nose area and this wasn't concealed enough by the Glamour Shot product.

All products are available to purchase from Marks & Spencer Your Beauty, www.marksandspencer.com and from www.feelunique.com

Royal Albert Afternoon Tea Tour 2013 At Spitalfields

On Friday I went along to the Royal Albert Afternoon Tea Tour at Spitalfields. It was a gorgeously sunny day, the famous tea tour van was there serving up delicious tea and moreish mini strawberry muffins. We were even treated to ice cream and strawberries, all served up in the delightful Royal Albert China. Although the event was entirely free there were donation boxes on the tables for Breast Cancer Care, so it was all for a good cause!

Afterwards we meandered around Spitalfields and came across amazing pop up art stalls. This sign caught my eye in one of the shops, it seemed really apt!

The Micellar Cleansing Water Blind Trial With Escentual.com Results Are In!

Back in May I took part in the Micellar Blind Trial held by Escentual.com,7 micellar waters were put to the test and our thoughts were collated... you can read more about what we were asked to rate by clicking here. Yesterday they announced which sample was which product and which one came out on top

The products tested

A- Dior Instant Cleansing Water
B - Nuxe Micellar Cleansing Water with Rose Petals
C - Caudalie Make-Up Remover Cleanser Water
D - Avene Micellar Lotion Cleanser and Make-Up Remover
E- La Roche-Posay Physiological Micellar Solution
F- Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micelle Solution
G -Vichy Purete Thermale Calming Cleansing Micellar Solution

Well my favourite turned out to be Sample D the Avene Micellar Lotion Cleanser - I wrote the following comments "It felt so smooth, like cleansing with water and has a lovely soft, delicate scent. Absolutely loved it."

Avene say -

The no-rinse formula is ideal those who suffer from sensitive skin, and those whose complexions are susceptible to repeated aggressions. Sensitised and fragile skin can often look dull, red, itchy and tight, meaning it requires extra gentle care to restore its natural balance.

However the sample that came out on top, being the favourite of 22.1% of trialists was Sample F Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micelle Solution. What is interesting is that it is a rather iconic product with many raving about it in the beauty world, well now it seems it was the favourite in blind trials too.

Personally I liked the product and would use it again but it wasn't my outright favourite.

To read the full results of the blind trial click here

Thanks Escentual.com for allowing me to be part of the blind trial, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

International Kissing Day is on Saturday 6th July 2013 and in celebration of this fact LUSH are attempting to set the new Guinness World Records title of the most lip prints collected in 12 consecutive hours.

You will be able to prep your lips by scrubbing away any dry skin with a Lip Scrub £5.25 I have been sent the rather delectable Mint Julips - a seriously yummy sugar mint scrub that makes lips super smooth, you will want to just eat it, luckily you can!

Follow by moisturising your lips with one of the new preservative free and aerated Lip Balms £5.50 I was sent the delicious chocolate orange Lip Service a lightweight and silky balm.

My Top 3 Skin Bases/Foundations for Combination Skin

Here are my top 3 foundation choices for combination skin. These are here because I turn to them the most. I would repurchase these in a heartbeat and they absolutely work for me. My criteria for a good foundation - easy to blend, must cover my redness and pores and have staying power. Not much really!

In no particular order -

1. Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Makeup SPF10 £27.50 for 30ml

Double Wear has been a favourite of mine for many, many years now. Although this is quite a heavy foundation, coverage is impressive for a true flawless appearance and it is adjustable so it doesn't NEED to look mask like. I don't need to wear a separate concealer or a primer. This is the one foundation that I would apply if I knew I was going to be out all day and evening and didn't want to reapply. It stays put and looks good until the minute you remove it. A fantastic and reliable foundation with cult status and rightly so. Available in 30 shades.

You can read my original review here.

2. YSL Le Teint Touche Éclat Foundation £29 for 30ml

Le Teint Touche Eclat Foundation really impressed me the first time I wore it and I go back to it time and time again. This is a revelation, it is incredibly light, covers everything I need it to and essentially looks natural and makes my skin look so good. Although its staying power is slightly less than the DW I like how fresh and radiant it makes my face look and it remains so for many hours. Available in 22 shades.

You can read my original review here

3. Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream £26 for 40ml

I cannot rave enough about this BB Cream. As a base it ticks all the boxes and provides the level of coverage that I require and demand in a product. Ginvera is a moisturising base with skin benefits, provides excellent coverage, a high protection level of SPF30 and it is similar to texture to the YSL foundation. It goes on a little Ash looking in colour but soon melts into the skin disappearing to be virtually undetectable, allowing you to just have fabulous looking skin. This is a perfect Summer base but truth be told I would be happy to wear this all year round.

You can read my original review here

What are you favourite foundations?
